Endodontic Treatment

Endodontic treatment, also known as root canal therapy, works to save and treat a seriously damaged tooth that is internally injured or diseased. Previously, extracting the damaged tooth would have been the only treatment option, but today every attempt is made to restore the tooth to original function.

Conserving a tooth through endodontic treatment involves removing infected pulp and nerves at the root of the tooth, then cleaning and sterilising the root canals. To protect it from recurring infection, the surface of the tooth is then sealed with a crown. As it is a complex treatment, it is usually conducted over a series of appointments.

Common symptoms suffered by patients requiring a root canal include:

  • Having an abscess present around your gum.

  • Pain and throbbing when chewing or biting into food.

  • Sensitivity to hot and cold food or beverages.

  • Discoloured or cracked teeth.

  • Tenderness to touch

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or have concerns about any of your teeth, call us today to book an appointment before extraction becomes the only option.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding with a surgical or invasive procedure, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
